3 Lessons to Learn from Mogens Smed
This month I attended another excellent CCAT (Calgary Council for Advanced Technology) event where Mogens Smed was speaking – ”The Leading Edge of Agile Architecture”.
Very interesting and I was impressed with DIRTT and what they have created including an amazing technology they use.
I found Mogens, entertaining, engaging, informative and I learned 3 lessons from his presentation:
1. If you have anything the least bit innovative in any marketplace, in order to sell it, you are going to have to ram it down their throats. I am paraphrasing. What I took from this is, persevere.
2. If you can’t sell it, it doesn’t matter what you have. The key to success and sales is communication.
3. What MBAs lack in observing, thinking and being in touch with the customer they make up for in business models, education and new math. This is not exactly what he said but the gist of what I got. What I gleaned from this is that degrees, academics, benchmarking and best practices are useful but not the only thing that matters. We need to be out there talking to customers. watching what’s going on, finding problems, and then thoughtfully creating solutions with others that are also engaging in these practices.
I left there inspired, we are on the right path, we are learning and communicating.
